Enhancement Grant Program
About the Program
The La Porte Enhancement Grant Program, which is sponsored by the La Porte Development Corporation, offers matching grants to business which are located anywhere within the City of La Porte. Eligible improvements of the La Porte Enhancement Grant Program include facade rehabilitation/enhancement, beautification projects, new awnings, canopies, porches, signage, and parking lot improvements.
The following types of projects are eligible for reimbursement grants.
Facade Rehabilitation & Enhancement Projects This includes work done on existing structures such as:
- Removing non-historic/added facades
- Removing paint from brick
- Repairing facades
- Replacing or restoring cornices
- Replacing windows
- Repointing brick or replacing mortar joints
- Restoring transom windows
New Awnings, Canopies, Porches & Signage
This includes replacing, adding, or repairing awnings, canopies, porches and signs. Signs may include:
- Awning/canopy sign
- Hanging signs
- Pedestrian signage
- Projecting signs
- Window signs
This may include public art, landscaping, and other beautification projects as approved by the La Porte Development Corporation Board (LPDC).
Parking Lot Improvements
Eligible projects include new parking lot construction, parking lot paving, parking lot re-surfacing, parking space striping/painting, new parking blocks, old parking block removal, and other projects as approved by the EGEC.
If you would like to apply for an enhancement grant, please fill out the Enhancement Grant Program Application (PDF) and return it to City Hall. You will need to have the application approved prior to beginning work on your project.
For projects in the Main Street District, we do not have specific guidelines for the design work. However, the City of La Porte is part of the San Jacinto Historic District and we do encourage businesses in the district to consider contacting the City of La Porte Planning Department for general guidelines.
