Thank you for visiting our website. On behalf of the men and women of the La Porte Police Department, welcome!
La Porte was founded on August 10, 1892, when law enforcement was carried out by a city marshal and his deputies, primarily from horseback. From those humble beginnings, the La Porte Police Department was formally established with the Office of the Chief of Police created on May 29, 1947. We are a modern, full-service police department, located in the southeast sector of the Houston metropolitan area. Our authorized strength is 79 sworn and 31 civilian positions.
Our police department is a professional organization, and we take great pride in providing the highest level of service possible. We are recognized as a “Best Practices” law enforcement agency by the Texas Police Chief’s Association, one of fewer than 150 such agencies in the entire state.
We strive to be professional, courteous, sincere, honest and compassionate. In addition to working to keep our city and our citizens safe, we respect the Constitutional Rights of everyone, regardless of their origin, religion, ethnicity or background.
We realize we cannot be truly effective without a strong, respectful, and trusting partnership with our community. With this collaboration in mind, our goal is to protect life and property, preserve the peace, and enforce the law.
We also realize that people are our most valuable asset. We are committed to retaining the best public servants possible and supporting them to where they will excel in serving our citizens. I am a firm believer in accomplishing this through the principles of Servant Leadership and in collaborative problem-solving.
As the Chief of Police, I believe you will find our members to be competent, respectful and professional in their duties. We are here to serve you. It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the City of La Porte Police Department’s website. Please do not hesitate to call on us if we can be of assistance to you.
Ron Parker, CPM
