Airport Advisory Board
This board meets on an as needed basis. Members are appointed by the City Council for 3-year terms.The staff liaison is the Public Works Director. Eligibility Requirements
Members shall be:
- Position 1–Shall be a Fixed Base Operator lessee at the City Municipal Airport.
- Position 2–Shall be a licensed pilot with aircraft housed at the City Municipal Airport.
- Position 3–Shall be a resident licensed pilot of the City of La Porte
- Position 4–Shall be a resident of the City of La Porte
- Position 5–Shall be an individual in a leadership position at San Jacinto College.
- Position 6-Shall be the Airport Manager (Public Works Director)
Building Codes Appeals Board
This board meets on an as needed basis. The members serve 3-year terms.They must be individuals owning or operating a business within the City of La Porte. Council will determine competency based on experience and training in matters pertaining to building construction. They may not be employed by the City of La Porte. The staff liaison is the City's Chief Building Official.The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of the building codes adopted by the City. The Chairman is to be elected by members at the first meeting and replaced as needed.
Chapter 172 Employee/Retiree Insurance & Benefits Board
This board meets on an as needed basis. The members serve 2-year terms. Members must be a citizen of La Porte, City of La Porte employee or appointed City attorney. The staff liaison is the Human Resources Manager. Under Chapter 172 Rules, the purpose of the Trustee is to supervise the operation of the Risk Pool.
Fire Code Review Board

Fire Control, Prevention, & EMS District Board
The La Porte Fire Control Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District is dedicated to fire safety and emergency medical services in the City of La Porte. The district was approved for an additional 10 years by a majority of voters of the City of La Porte at an election held on May 7, 2016.
Firefighters' Pension Board
This board meets on an as needed basis. There are no term limitations. The staff liaison is the Fire Department Administrative Assistant.The pension board is responsible for “local” administration of the Texas Statewide Emergency Services Retirement Act (TSESRA) for members of the La Porte Volunteer Fire Department. Legislative changes effective 9/1/2005 removed two active board member positions.
La Porte Development Corporation Board
In 1999, the citizens of La Porte voted for the adoption of a ½ cent sales tax for the purpose of spurring economic development in the City. After approval from the voters of the new sales tax, the City Council created an Economic Development Corporation and appointed the first governing body.
Some of the very first projects of the Board were participation in the building of the new City Library and the Canada Road and Bay Area Blvd. road extensions. Although as with any Board or Committee, the Board had assistance and cooperation with many other EDO community partners such as Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jack Morman.
As 2007 rolled around, the Board and City Manager determined that it was time for a staff member to be added so that a systematic economic development program could be developed. It is the intent of the Program to serve the business community needs through a staff dedicated solely to economic development endeavors in the City.
Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number 1 Board
This board meets on an as needed basis. Must be a qualified voter in the City of La Porte or at least 18 years of age or own property in the TIRZ Harris County and La Porte Independent School District each appoint a member. The staff liaison is the Assistant City Manager.
The purpose of the board is to finance the development and redevelopment of unproductive, underdeveloped or blighted areas within the City. Created by Ordinance 99-2325. The Mayor shall annually nominate and appoint, subject to Council approval, members to fill expired terms or fill any vacancy. The Mayor shall annually nominate and appoint a member to serve as Chair for a term of 1 year.
Zoning Board of Adjustment
This board meets on the 4th Thursday of the month (as needed) at 6 p.m. Meeting Schedule and Deadlines.

The Board of Adjustment shall hear and decide appeals to any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Building Official related to the Zoning Ordinance. The Board also hears and decides on special exceptions and variances as long as their action is not contrary to public interest and is within the guidelines established by State Law and the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The Board shall also conduct public hearings and render decisions regarding the Zoning Ordinance’s provisions for non-conforming structures and uses.
