Garbage service is provided twice weekly to residents on Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. Garbage should be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Crews will not grab loose garbage from cans, everything must be in a bag. Garbage should not be placed in trash cans, boxes, or grocery sacks. Bags should be securely tied to prevent spillage and contain no sharp objects that could cause injury to collection crews.
Bags should not weigh in excess of 40 pounds to prevent breakage and scattering of garbage. If garbage exceeds 40 pounds, it will be left for the heavy trash crew.
Pets allowed to run loose frequently cause garbage spills. Please keep pets contained and report any strays to the Animal Control Division of the Police Department. A small amount of ammonia poured into garbage bags before closing will help deter animals.
The City of La Porte provides 3 rolls of garbage bags each year. They are delivered to your front door every February. Additional rolls are $7.22 and may be purchased at Utility Billing, located inside of City Hall.
