[ARCHIVED] National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is one of our society's major problems that hides in plain sight - it's such an every occurrence that most of us tune it out like white noise, oblivious to the physical, financial, and psychological toll it exacts - when in fact, the cost is high. We need to let victims know that the community is here to support them and that there is an alternative.

The #1Thing message builds off of the Awareness + Action = Social Change campaign idea that to accomplish real social transformation, we must incorporate concrete action steps that individuals, families, communities and institutions can take.

So with one thing we want to focus on change making and the idea that i can start small and doesn't have to be overwhelming. Everyone plays a role in creating the world we want to live in and when each commit to doing just one thing, the collective power of our actions can create real social transformation. Change can start with just #1Thing!

Stay connected to the City's website or the La Porte Police Department's Facebook Page for more ways to participate in raising awareness throughout the month of October. Remember, AWARENESS + Action = Social Change! For questions, please contact Shaye Lister, Crime Victim Liaison for the La Porte Police Department, at 281-842-3172 or ListerS@LaPorteTX.Gov..
